About this trip

This is the itinerary we recommend to most first-time visitors, and the one we have refined the most. Six days is enough to see Srinagar, Gulmarg and Pahalgam properly without spending your holiday in a car.

You start and finish in Srinagar, with one night on a houseboat and the rest in a hotel near Boulevard Road. Gulmarg and Pahalgam each get a full day rather than the rushed half-day most operators offer — which means you can ride both gondola phases at Gulmarg and drive all three valleys at Pahalgam.

Transport is a private vehicle with a driver who knows the roads. Nothing is shared.

Day by day

  1. Day 1

    Arrive Srinagar · Dal Lake

    Airport pickup and transfer to your houseboat. Afternoon shikara ride across Dal Lake, past the floating gardens. Evening free along Boulevard Road. Overnight on the houseboat.

  2. Day 2

    Srinagar sightseeing

    Nishat and Shalimar gardens in the morning, then Chashme Shahi and Shankaracharya Temple for the view over the city. Afternoon in the old city around Jamia Masjid. Shift to your hotel for the night.

  3. Day 3

    Gulmarg day trip

    Drive up to Gulmarg (about two hours). Gondola phase one to Kongdoori and, weather permitting, phase two towards Apharwat. Time in the meadow before returning to Srinagar.

  4. Day 4

    Srinagar to Pahalgam

    Drive to Pahalgam via the saffron fields at Pampore and the cricket-bat workshops at Sangam. Afternoon walk along the Lidder. Overnight in Pahalgam.

  5. Day 5

    Pahalgam valleys

    Local taxi through Betaab Valley, Aru Valley and Chandanwari — the three side valleys, each different. Optional pony ride up to Baisaran. Return to Srinagar in the evening.

  6. Day 6

    Departure

    Free morning for shopping in Lal Chowk if your flight allows, then transfer to Srinagar airport.

Breakfast and dinner daily, served at your hotel or houseboat. Lunches are left open so you can eat where the day takes you.
Transport
Private air-conditioned vehicle throughout — a sedan for two travellers, an SUV or tempo traveller for larger groups. Local union taxis at Gulmarg and Pahalgam are mandated by local rules and are not included.

Frequently asked

Is the gondola ticket included?
No. Gondola tickets are sold by the Gulmarg Development Authority on the day and are subject to weather and availability. We help you book them, but they are paid separately.
Can we do this trip with young children?
Yes. The drives are the longest part of the day and none exceed about three hours. We can adjust the pace and swap the pony rides for gentler options.
Do we really need a houseboat night?
It is optional. Some travellers love it, others prefer a hotel for the whole stay. Tell us and we will adjust the itinerary and the price.
